Course content

Many course participants have little idea what a first aid course is before they attend one.
We have therefore put together some information for you here so that you know what to expect ๐Ÿ™‚

The aim of the course is to prepare you so that you can take action in an emergency situation to save human life and avert or alleviate imminent danger or health problems until professional help arrives.

The pure course duration is 6 hours and 45 minutes (9 teaching units).
Including breaks, a course lasts 7 hours and 30 minutes. There is usually a 30-minute break and two shorter breaks.

Incidentally, you don’t need any preparation to take part, as all first aid courses are basic courses.
We teach you all the basics of emergency medicine that are needed to save lives.

Life-saving immediate measures and behavior at the scene of an accident are dominant topics in first aid courses.
Theoretical knowledge is also deepened in part through practical exercises.

The following topics are covered in first aid courses:

  • Observe own safety/own protective behavior (e.g. be able to secure an accident site and observe hygiene aspects)
  • Being able to make an emergency call
  • Know how to rescue from a danger zone including road traffic
  • Be able to implement measures for psychological care and heat preservation
  • Know the contents of the first aid kit
  • Carry out wound care using existing dressings and be able to take any necessary additional measures in the event of special circumstances (foreign bodies in wounds, nosebleeds, amputation injuries, dental injuries, burns, chemical burns)
  • Recognize threatening bleeding and be able to take appropriate measures
  • Be able to carry out measures for bone fractures and joint injuries
  • Be able to control consciousness and know the dangers of unconsciousness
  • Be able to control breathing and know the dangers of respiratory arrest
  • Being able to perform the lateral position
  • Be able to perform resuscitation incl.
    Be able to perform artificial respiration
  • Know how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Knowing how to remove a helmet from an unconscious motorcyclist
  • Recognize brain-related disorders and be able to take appropriate measures in the event of a stroke or seizure
  • Recognize respiratory disorders and take appropriate measures for airway obstruction and bronchial asthma
  • Recognize circulatory disorders and take appropriate measures in the event of heart attacks and electrical accidents
  • Recognize and treat temperature-related disorders (sunstroke/heatstroke/ hypothermia/freezing)
  • Recognize and treat poisoning
  • Be informed about organ donation

The course also includes practical content:

  • Wound care with dressings from the first aid kit
  • Pressure bandage on the arm
  • Determining consciousness
  • Determining the respiratory function
  • Lateral position
  • Resuscitation incl.
    ventilation
